René Hayden hails from the greater area of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, by way of San Diego. He went to Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, double majoring in History and Anthropology, and then earned his Ph.D. in pre-1877 American History at the University of California, San Diego. This is his fifth year at Stokes School. Rene joined the school after working as a University lecturer, historical documentary editor, construction worker, and high school teacher. He has lived in Washington, D.C. since 2001.
René is francophone, and was certified as an ELA teacher in Washington, D.C., through the Center for Inspired Teaching.
René enjoys doing dad-like things, biking and repairing bikes, visiting with folks, reading, playing music, and fermenting stuff, as well as freaking out about science.
