MADELEINE JAFFE

Second Grade French

Mme. Madeleine grew up in Evanston and Chicago, Illinois. She is a native English speaker, but she is also fluent in French (level C1). She graduated in 2017 from Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where she studied philosophy with minors in French and Francophone studies and educational studies.

Mme. Madeleine participated in, and eventually held leadership positions in student organizations such as The Mac Weekly Newspaper, Fresh Concepts Improv Comedy, Macalester Jewish Organization, and Queer Union, as well as off-campus employment as an afterschool teacher at a local Montessori preschool. She has over ten years as an educator, both as a classroom teacher, camp counselor, afterschool teacher and coordinator.

Mme. Madeleine shares a house with two close friends. She moved to DC in September of 2019 after spending two years teaching English in Nantes, France. She still finds fun ways to explore the city and get to know her neighbors and community. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, photography, trivia and board games, yoga, and playing outside (swimming, hiking, camping). This school year she hopes to learn how to garden and spend more time volunteering for local organizations such as Martha’s Table and Out Teach.
