Speech and Language Pathologist

Under direction of the Director of Special Education will participate as a member of the educational team to assess student performance in the areas of speech, communication and fluency; develop assessment reports; identify student abilities within educational, developmental or functional parameters; develop goals and objectives for consideration in the (Individual Education Plan (IEP) team meeting; develop individual speech, language and communication therapy intervention plans; maintain appropriate documentation and reports and provide staff development training to education personnel.  Does other related work as required.

 

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Provide educationally related speech and language therapy assessment in areas of suspected disability.

  2. Conducts screening and testing, obtains diagnostic information, analyzes information and makes recommendations regarding programs and services to be administered in the school setting.

  3. Complete assessments reports according to specified guidelines and develop long and short-term goals and objectives with the IEP team.

  4. Develop intervention plans that support IEP goals and implement in appropriate settings and curricula.

  5. Consult with and train classroom personnel to implement intervention plans in student’s environments.

  6. Monitor student progress, review on annual basis, reassess on triennial basis, prepare reports and maintain records as required.

  7. Develop and implement training opportunities for classroom staff and parents on the role of speech and language services, communication disorders and normal speech and hearing development.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree from and accredited institution of higher education. 

  • Master’s level degree in speech and language pathology or communication disorders.

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) offered by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association

  • Appropriate certification and licensure in Speech and Language Pathology by the District of Columbia
