From the beginning, the Elsie Whitlow Stokes School has been rooted in passion. Our founder, Linda Moore, was inspired from an early age by a great educator, her mother and the school’s namesake. We adapt what works from traditional education models like hers and find new and innovative ways to get the best performance possible out of each student.

The mission of the Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School is to prepare culturally diverse elementary school students to be leaders, scholars and responsible citizens who are committed to social justice. We teach children to think, speak, read, write and learn in two languages: English and French or English and Spanish.

We accomplish our mission, with a dual focus on academic excellence and community service, by creating an environment of achievement, respect and non-violence.

Recognizing the crucial role parent’s play in their children’s lives, we hold them in high regard. We welcome and encourage them to be a part of our school community at every level .Each morning parents are greeted by a school administrator or faculty member and welcomed to share a cup of coffee. Throughout the school year we offer them workshops on parenting, a Saturday parent/student academy, an annual parent retreat, meetings with simultaneous translation, a family fitness program, festivals and, for those who need it, ESL and literacy classes.
