How to Enroll at Stokes School

Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School participates in the My School DC common application and lottery.

On March 29, 2024, you will receive an email from My School DC with your lottery results. If you are matched at Stokes School, you must enroll before May 1, 2024. After that time, Stokes School will begin making offers to prospective scholars on the waitlist as space allows.

Step 1: Accept your offer. You will receive an email from Stokes School and My School DC notifying you of your placement offer. Congratulations! Please follow the instructions to complete pre-registration.

Step 2: Documents and information. You will receive an email with a DocuSign enrollment packet, including instructions on how to set up a Stokes PowerSchool account. The forms in the packet include DC Residency Verification, Universal Health Certificate, immunization record, Oral Health Form, birth certificate (for new students only), federal school lunch form, and request for prior school records (for transferring students).

For more information about proving DC residency, please visit the Office of Enrollment and Residency.

Step 3: Signatures. When your documents are approved, you will receive a second email from DocuSign for your signature.

You will next hear from us in August. Using the contact information that you provided in the enrollment process, in August we will send an invitation to our school communication platform, ParentSquare. Here, you will find information about your classroom assignment, teacher contact information, and details about the start of school. Our Family Handbook, including information about pre-k readiness, is on our website.

We cant wait to meet you!

Penalty for False Information

DC public schools are required to report suspected cases of residency fraud to the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) immediately. In some cases, non-residents may attend DC public schools, but they must pay tuition after meeting established criteria. In addition, in order to  be accepted/admitted  as a non-resident, schools should not have any residents on its waiting list.

Any person, including any District of Columbia public school or public charter school official, who knowingly supplies false information to a public official in connection with student residency verification shall be subject to charges of tuition retroactively, and payment of a fine of not more than $2,000 or imprisonment for not more than 90 days, but not both fine and imprisonment, pursuant to the District of Columbia Nonresident Tuition Act, approved September 8, 1960 and amended by the District of Columbia Public Schools and Public Charter School Student Residency Fraud Prevention Amendment Act of 2012 (D.C. Code §38-312).  The case of any such person may be referred by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education to the Office of the Attorney General.
